vishnu's das-avataar: 7th avataar: shree raam ...THE REQUEST FOR VISHNU TO INCARNATE AS RAAM ... Serial Part 7-3 of 13
Posted by Champaklal Dajibhai Mistry on July 12, 2002

In the previous serials sitaa-devi told us who she and raam is.....prakruti and brhmah respectively......and sitaa-devi said that everything in this creation is brhmah.....we had an overview of brhmah .....and learned about the relation how brhmah creates aatmaa and prakruti....... we learned about how aatmaa travels in this prakruti's universe in different naam and ruup.......and we also learned what our own aatmaa is in relation to our own body...

shiv-dev continues his kathaa to satisfy the thirst for knowledge of his wife paarvati-devi:

"paarvati-devi asks: My manas (mind) is yet to be fully satisfied with your brief kathaa of raam-tattva (essence of raam). This raam-tattva is like amrut which makes us immortals. How heard this little I have now an intense desire to hear in detail this raam-tattva. But make it easy enough for me to understand" ...(from aadhyaatmaa raamaayan, Chapter 2, slok 2/3)...

...please read Part 7-3 of 13 by clicking on the next line.......how raam's avataar came about.......

THE SEVENTH AVATAR:  SHREE RAAM
...........FROM AADHYAATMAA RAAMAAYAN...............

an overview of

...........why raam's avataar happened?.....

In the last serial bhagvaan we learned about aatmaa per se. We should learn how this aatmaa travels through time and space as we understand in the human sense......but before we learn that let us first learn about how the need for any travel by aatmaa comes about........by learning about why vishnu's aatmaa made this travel as 7th avataar......

shiv-dev replied to paarvati-devi: (extracts from aadhyaatmaa raamaayan, Chapter 2, slok 6 to 30 with explanatory information form devi bhaagvat and other ved texts)...

"I will tell you the kathaa of raam's travel as I had heard it from raam himself long time ago. Listening to this kathaa removes 3-fold suffering of mankind by eliminating the  fear of death and obtaining the boon of prosperity, long life and male progeny." (from aadhyaatmaa raamaayan, Chapter 2, slok 5)...

How does this remove suffering: by replacing agnaan (ignorance) with gnaan (knowledge). With knowledge through education and experience one can achieve anything as per the present day cliché "KNOWLEDGE IS POWER".

shiv-dev continues:

"pruthvi-devi, is the is brhmah's shakti who presides over the creation called pruthvi and supports and empowers pruthvi. pruthvi-devi could not bear the burden of evil residing on pruthvi. The evil was in the form of asuraa or raakshas (opposite of devo) who were came to reside on pruthvi from their domain called paataal and were terrorizing humans and causing destruction on pruthvi. Therefore pruthvi-devi visited brahmaa-dev (of the trinity of brahmaa-visnu-shiv) for assistance in reducing her burden of evil.

pruthvi in ved means the domain of immortals.  During pralay (dissolution) of the universe at the end of a brahmaa-dev's day pruthvi is submerged in the waters of pralay. During the process of creation after a pralay, pruthvi is made through a process called panchi-karan and is kept in the pores of hairs of viraat.  Each hair of viraat's body contains a brhmaand (universe) which has pruthvi as part of creation. Even brhmah-self does not known how many brhmaand exists in viraat's body. viraat is the offspring of sagun-brhmah and mahaa-maayaa in the form of raadhaa. The dimension of viraat is incomprehensible to human mind. viraat possesses sixteenth part of sagun-brhmah's shakti (power). The pores of viraat's body hair contain all the brhmaand (universes).  A brhmaand contains the 3-lok (worlds) of devo which are: svarga-lok of seven divisions, mrutyu-lok of world of mortals and daanav-lok of asuraa which is paataal of seven divisions. Each brhmaand contains the trinity of brahmaa-vishnu-shiv, three karor (30 million) devo and the rest of the creation emanating from them. The domain of pruthvi contains regions beyond our physical earth. The domain of pruthvi has sapta-dvip (seven divisions of terrestrial world) containing 49 uup-dvip (sub-divisions) and has sapta-samudra (seven terrestrial oceans).

brahmaa-dev was not able to help pruthvi-devi in eliminating her burden of evil. So he took pruthvi-devi along with other devo to visit kshar-saagar (ocean of milk). There brahmaa-dev invoked vishnu-dev with a praathnaa (prayer) with proper strotra (vedik hymn of praise). vishnu-dev manifested before them and asked brahmaa-dev how he could help him. brahmaa-dev said: "bhagvaan, a powerful raakshas named raavan had obtained a boon from me that no mortal could kill him. With this boon raavan has become arrogant and greedy and has conquered the three lok (svarga, pruthvi and paataal) and is terrorizing and oppressing everybody. So bhagvaan, I request you to take a human form and destroy raavan and his evil empire and save the destruction of dharma in this 3-lok "

vishnu-dev answered: "prajaapati kasapya, who has created all the living beings in this universe, has received a boon from me that I will be born as his son. That kaspya-muni is presently incarnated as dashrath-raajaa on pruthvi and is about 60,000 years old. His wife aditi is also incarnated as his mortal wife, kausalyaa. I will be born of my ansh (partial shakti form) as their son. My tattva-ansh will also incarnate as three sons in dashrath-raajaa's two other wives, sumitraa and kaikayi. When I incarnate my yog-maayaa or mahaa-maayaa will incarnate as sitaa, the daughter of janak-raajaa. With sitaa I will fulfill your request."

Then brahmaa-dev requested all the devo to incarnate themselves as their own ansh (in the partial form of each dev's shakti) on pruthvi taking the form of vaanar (tribes of various types of monkeys and bears) and help vishnu-dev in his mission to destroy raavan and his evil empire.....

And so began the end of raavan and his evil empire.....as we will learn in days to come.....

At PVAF, we pray to bhagvaan to bless us to keep learning ved in the serial to appear in the days to come to eternity...........om namah brhmah......om shaanti shanti  shaanti........om tat sat........
