MAJOR EARTHQUAKE FELT IN ENTIRE GUJARAT TO MUMBAI

On Friday, January 26, 2001 at 8.46 am Gujarat time, an earthquake measuring 7.9 on Richter scale struck Shaurashtra. The epicentre was in Buj. In Gujarat damage has been experienced at Ahmedabad, Surat and other places.
The quake was felt through entire Gujarat and as far away as Mumbai and Pune in Maharashtra.
7.9 magnitude earthquake is classified as major earthquake and is of the second most intensity range, the first being 8.0 or greater. At 7.9 severe civilizations can be totalled within 60 miles radius.
