vishnu's das-avataar: 7th avataar: shree raam ...ATTRIBUTES OF BRHMAH ... Serial Part 9-3 of 13
Posted by Champaklal Dajibhai Mistry on October 17, 2002

As a refresher to the continuing with this serial this week, PVAF is re-publishing the Serial Part 9-3 of 13 today.

In the previous serials sitaa-devi told us who she and raam is.....prakruti and brhmah respectively......and sitaa-devi said that everything in this creation is brhmah.....we had an overview of brhmah .....and learned about the relation how brhmah creates aatmaa and prakruti....... we learned about how aatmaa travels in this prakruti's universe in different naam and ruup and what our own aatmaa is in relation to our own body...then we came to know the reason for raam's avataar....

 shiv-dev continues his kathaa to satisfy the thirst for knowledge of his wife paarvati-devi:

"paarvati-devi asks: My manas (mind) is yet to be fully satisfied with your brief kathaa of raam-tattva (essence of raam). This raam-tattva is like amrut which makes us immortals. How heard this little I have now an intense desire to hear in detail this raam-tattva. But make it easy enough for me to understand" ...(from aadhyaatmaa raamaayan, Chapter 2, slok 2/3)...

shiv-dev continues relaying to  paarvati-devi the prayer kaushlya raani, the mother of shree raam, offered to her new born child who showed her the real form of maha-vishnu upon being born as raam......

...please read that in Part 9-3 of 13 by clicking on the next line.......

THE SEVENTH AVATAR:  SHREE RAAM
...........FROM AADHYAATMAA RAAMAAYAN...............

...........kaushlya raani offers stuti to the raam, her newly born child in the form of mahaa-vishnu?.....

In the last serial from bhagvaan we learned about aatmaa per se. We should learn how this aatmaa travels through time and space as we understand in the human sense......but before we learn that let us first learn about how the need for any travel by aatmaa comes about........by learning about why vishnu's aatmaa made this travel as 7th avataar......and how vishnu's birth was made possible in the mortal world......and now how vishnu-dev shows his real divine form at birth to her mortal mother, kaushlya raani and seeing this kaushlya raani offers stuti to the child to describe the real essence of child's aatmaa....a stuti is a praise offered to a dev or devi describing the real essence and the powers of the dev or devi.....

shiv-dev continued telling the kathaa to paarvati-devi: "I will tell you the kathaa of raam's travel as I had heard it from raam himself long time ago. Listening to this kathaa removes 3-fold suffering of mankind by eliminating the  fear of death and obtaining the boon of prosperity, long life and male progeny." (from aadhyaatmaa raamaayan, Chapter 2, slok 5)...How does this remove suffering: by replacing agnaan (ignorance) with gnaan (knowledge). With knowledge through education and experience one can achieve anything as per the present day cliché "KNOWLEDGE IS POWER".

shiv-dev continues: (extracts from aadhyaatmaa raamaayan, Chapter 3, slok 19 to 25 with explanatory information from other ved sources)...

Recap from Chapter 3 slok 1 to 18:

The child born to kaushlya raani and dashrath raajaa was extraordinary as the child was an incarnation of the parmaatmaa sanaatan, meaning supreme aatmaa who is eternal and who is the jaagnaath (lord of the worlds).  The child at birth showed his true form of vishnu to her mother: a body luminous like hundred suns, blue in complexion, the eyes tingled louts red at the corners and had four hands and wore the following: a yellow cloth; shining pair of ear pendants; shankh (conch), chakra (discus), gadaa (mace) and kamal (lotus flower) in four hands; a garland of wild flowers; sirvatsa on his chest, neckalce, armlets, anklets and other ornaments. His smile was like lunar light and his lotus-like eyes were overflowing with karunaa (compassion).

Beholding such a magnificent form kaushalya-raani, who herself is the ansh-avataar of aditi-devi, wife of kaspya-muni, the creator of all living beings in the universe...offered the following stuti (prayer of praise) to the newly born child........

"namaste dev of all devo, and the bearer of shankh, chakra, and gadaa.:

  • You are parmaatmaa (brhmah) and purushottam (the best of all purusho meaning beings) and eternal, all is contained in you;

  • You are sattaam meaning sat or what really exists which is brhmah;

  • You are the form of gnaan (knowledge which creates the entire universe);

  • By your maayaa and with your sattva-gun, rajas-gun and tamas-gun you create, sustain and destroy the vishva (universe) but you remain ever unstained;

  • You appear to be doing everything but you are not the doer;

  • You appear to be the moving but you do not move;

  • You appear to be hearing but do not hear;

  • You appear to be seeing but are not seeing;

  • You are without praan (shakti in the form of breath which makes all functions perform in a body) and manas (mind);

  • As proclaimed by shruti which is ved knowledge given by intuition and inspiration to rushio by brhmah, you are shuddh meaning pure, clean, purified, holy, undefiled, chaste, innocent, stainless, spotless, simple, guileless, genuine, true, honest, upright, correct, faultless, unequalled, pure aatmaa;

  • You are in entirety all the beings (divine, human and inanimate) but you cannot be perceived or apprehended or observed or seen or marked or denoted or defined in them;

  • agnaani meaning  a person without gnaan do not understand, perceive, know, comprehend or you or become conscious of you.

  • But people who are sumedh meaning those having a good understanding, who are wise and intelligent, you become vyakta to them meaning you appear to them manifested, displayed, developed, created, evident, clear, plain, distinct, clearly visible, specified, known, distinguished, wise, learned, adorned, decorated and an individual and also in the form of vishnu;

  • The brhmaando (all the universes) are an atom in your abdomen."

This is the way we should pray everyday to brhmah with an understanding of the prayer that brhmah is everything, empowers us to do everything and provides all the shakti and resources without which we cannot even take a breath.......and then automatically through this prayer also we are asking brhmah to empower us to be brhmah's nimitt and perfrom sevaa to brhmah as brhmah's nimitt without expecting anything return or fruits or rewards but only brhmah's blessing to perform sevaa eternally....in spite of knowing he is the doer of all karma through the powers of maayaa with 3-guno.

In the next serial we will learn more about what kaushlya raani and shree raam converse as mother and child.....which shows the humility of brhmah as a mortal child born in the mortal world to a mortal woman......

At PVAF, we pray to bhagvaan to bless us to keep learning ved in the serial to appear in the days to come to eternity...........om namah brhmah......om shaanti shanti  shaanti........om tat sat........
