14 DAY GUJARAT QUAKE: TAKING CARE OF PEOPLE BY PEOPLE IS GUJARATI SPIRIT

MEDICAL HELP: 484 doctors are treating 400000 people injured in the quake in 34 hopitals in 949 villages in Kutch area.
RECONSTRUCTION: Gujarat government will bring out a reconstruction plan of the areas devastated by Bhuj quake by Februrary 10, 2001 and will start implementing the plan with local, national and international relief funds. It is estimated that the reconstruction and resettlement of the devastated areas may take about 18 months.
AFTERSHOCKS: On Thurday night February 8th 2001 the third strongest aftershock was felt of 5.3 magnitude throughout Gujarat for about 30 seconds. However no damage was reported but panic among public prevailed. Since January 26th over 400 aftershocks have been registered. |
