More than 12,000 Hindu couples got hitched on the same day, November 27, 2003, in Delhi after astrologers said it was the best day to get married for 12 years.Priest Acharya Shyam Trivedi said the couples were keen to take advantage of the day when the planets favoured their conjugal bonds. The governing planets of matrimony had formed a unique confluence making November 27 so lucky, he explained. Tent house owners, caterers, DJs, beauty parlours and even priests were rushed off their feet and reinforcements had to be sent from neighbouring cities

The planets will remain in an auspicious position until December 3 and by then at least 9,000 more couples are expected to have married in Delhi.

The Hindu wedding season runs from May to mid-December, with the bulk of ceremonies taking place once the monsoons are over in September and peaking in November, but has been greatly distorted this year and next by a long series of inauspicious days.
